Curriculum Overview
INTENT
We offer an inclusive, knowledge engaged curriculum that develops and challenges children’s understanding of the world they live in. We have developed a curriculum framework that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum as well as additional curriculum enhancements which ensure the personal and social development of pupils through a wide range of additional experiences and opportunities.
IMPLEMENTATION
Our school values are intertwined and well embedded within our curriculum. We challenge children to think and enquire - making mistakes and asking questions is how we learn! We prepare children for a future in the modern and quickly changing world. Education at our school is rooted in consistent, quality delivery and equality of opportunities for all children in all subjects and wider aspects of school life. Children follow clear pathways of progression in knowledge, skills and vocabulary and use a rich variety of resources and learning styles to secure understanding.
IMPACT
We continuously monitor, review and take action to further develop, change and evolve the delivery, scope and effectiveness of our curriculum.
The Curriculum at Kingfisher CE Academy is:
Broad - it introduces children to a wide range of knowledge, skills and experiences.
Balanced – each subject is allocated sufficient time (dependent on age and ability).
Relevant - subjects are taught in a way that related to children’s lives and experiences now and in the future.
Memorable - the curriculum provides memorable and fun experiences and rich opportunities for high quality learning and wider personal development and well-being.
Inclusive and engaging - the curriculum is taught in a way that supports the needs of the child. Opportunities will be accessible to all learners. Teaching creates a 'buzz' and a positive attitude to learning is evident.
Challenging - teachers have high expectations and aspirations of all children. Lessons are designed to stretch thinking and deepen understanding.
Creative - allowing children opportunities to express themselves in a variety of ways.
At Kingfisher CE Academy we encourage and support our children to:
- Become independent and reflective learners, independent thinkers, inquisitive and be team players
- Develop a growth mindset, their emotional resilience and critical thinking skills.
- Take risks and learn from mistakes.
The TEEP Learning Cycle
At Kingfisher CE Academy we use the TEEP (Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Programme) cycle to deliver lessons where appropriate. This cycle consists of the following:
- Prepare to learn
- Share learning outcomes
- 'What, How Why?'
- Present new information
- Construct Meaning
- Apply to Demonstrate
- Review
This cycle may be seen in one lesson but more commonly over a sequence of lessons. These parts of the cycle are used as a guide for teachers to plan purposeful and stimulating lessons that engage pupils in learning.
