What does Computing look like at Kingfisher?
Aims of the computing National Curriculum:
The National Curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:
- can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
What does computing look like at Kingfisher?
At Kingfisher CE Academy, we strive to deliver a high-quality Computing curriculum which allows our pupils to recognise the significance of digital technology in their everyday lives. We explicitly teach pupils the skills and knowledge they need to become creative, digitally literate, computational thinkers.
We encourage curiosity about digital technology and encourage our pupils to ask questions about the digital systems around them. We explore how technology is used in the real world and how to use it in a safe and responsible way. We ensure all children are exposed to high-quality Computing teaching and a range of learning experiences.
By teaching Computing, we intend to impart pupils with the knowledge, understanding, confidence, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their potential as individuals in an increasingly technological society and in the digital community.
At Kingfisher, we follow the Teach Computing curriculum which has been devised by experts from the National Centre for Computing Education in conjunction with the DfE.
